Allen Hulsey

Singer/Songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Allen Hulsey loves to combine traditional instruments with synthesizers. His style draws from his study of ethnic and world folk melodies, and a background in jazz and rock. He plays Turkish instruments such as the Bağlama, Fretless Guitar, and Kanun, fusing them with dance music production.

One of his most popular sessions, is the Kanun Sound Meditation. Which he has already hosted at The Temple of Babylon on numerous occasions. These are comprised of compositions and improvised passages transmitted with love from Bali. As he performs he focuses on intentions of connection, healing, and gratitude.

The Kanun is an ancient instrument with many versions in primarily the Middle East and parts of Africa. The sound is said to resemble the human voice, with soothing and healing properties. Allen first began training with Celalettin Aksoy of the Whirling Dervish orchestra in Konya, Turkey. Home of the resting place of mystic poet Jalāl ad-Dīn Rumi.
