Welcome to Ibiza

Popular opinion: if you want to party HARD, welcome to Ibiza! There is no other island that seems more associated with nightlife than the third largest of the Balearic Islands. But besides this, Eivissa is also home to a very strong spiritual community, where the bohemian hippie spirit still thrives. How could it not be in such beautiful natural surroundings, with magical places such as the historical town and coastline near Es Vedrá?

Nightlife, culture, nature, and spirituality. Sounds like the perfect destination to add to the Gardens of Babylon’s global showcases, right? So, revising our previous statement: if you want to party HARD, but more consciously, go to our monthly residency event at Las Dalias! Book your flight, book your villa, and we will see you on the dancefloor!

    About our event in Ibiza

No, we won’t quote that Vengaboys song. Oh heck, we will: Whoah! We’re going to Ibiza! Are you as excited to get back to the island as we are? Or will it be your first time? In any case, many of our team members and community members hold Ibiza very dear, frequenting the Island often. To help you on your way and find the most interesting places to go, we’ll share all our recommendations in this blog.

Important to know is that our Ibiza residency is a monthly recurring event, throughout the spring and summer of 2022. From March to June, we will amaze you with a fabulous line-up on every 4th Sunday of the month. Only to continue all the fabulousness on every 3rd Thursday of the month from July until September.

    Mark in your calendar:
    March 27
    April 24
    May 22
    June 16
    July 14
    August 18
    September 15

On all these dates the place to be is Las Dalias de Ibiza, a fascinating oasis of color, peace, music, and dreams. It has one of the most famous hippie markets on the island, Mercadillo Hippy. Furthermore, there is a lovely Mediterranean restaurant and nightclub Akasha. As you can guess, this semi open-air and indoor venue is perfect for our monthly gatherings.

Open air restaurant of Las Dalias

Our day into night parties at Las Dalias and Akasha will include all the elements we know you love; a grounding opening ceremony, the best local and international DJs, a market full of local vendors, spiritual healers, and amazing performers.

During the day, our event is accessible for people of all ages. At 19.00, the doors of Akasha will open for guests aged 18+.

    Become a volunteer

We can’t wait to dance the night away together! But, there are even more ways for you to participate and join the magic. To transform every venue into our beloved Babylonian garden, we could always use some extra help. If you are planning to join the event, consider signing up as a decor team volunteer (no experience needed).

It’s a very fun way to connect with the team and community (which we lovingly refer to as family), plus you will be added to the guestlist for the event. If you are interested, please send us an email: volunteers@thegardensofbabylon.com

    Some practical information first

Lately, it might almost feel as if covid-19 has been defeated. However, traveling can still be tricky depending on where you’re from so please make sure you double-check which requirements apply to you.

    • Health Control Form
Every passenger entering Ibiza (by plane and ferry) must complete a Health Control Form from the Spanish government. This document must be filled out within 48 hours before your journey. Complete the form on this website, or by using the Spain Travel Health App. After you have filled out the form, you will receive a QR-code by email. This QR-code will be checked before boarding, and sometimes also upon arrival.
    • Proof of vaccination / recovery / negative test
You will need to provide one of the three options above if you are above 12 years of age and traveling from a covid risk country. Find a list of all the ‘risk’ countries here.
Make sure to double check! At the time of writing, countries such as the Netherlands and the UK were still included. All info regarding covid pasports and requirements can be found on the website of the Spanish Government.
    • Covid-19 restrictions on the island
Once you arrive in Ibiza, you will soon find that there are hardly any restrictions. Restaurants and stores are all open, all the clubs are starting to reopen too. Some select indoor locations will still require you to wear a mask, but not everywhere.
    • Join our Whatsapp group
As soon as you are even considering to join us in Ibiza, add yourself to our community Whatsapp group! Here, the team will share relevant info about the event and other gatherings, and you can connect with the Babylon tribe. Traveling alone? No problem! In the Whatsapp group you can find other solo travelers or groups of friends to meet up with, share rides, or accommodation with.

    Transportation

We hate to disappoint, but Uber and other similar services aren’t active in Ibiza. To request a taxi, you can use the Ibiza Taxi App, or simply jump into one at the taxi stands.

If you really want to get around and discover the island though, you can’t always count on taxis. Renting a car is a must! Renting a motorbike might be an option too, if you don’t mind long distances and sometimes bad road surfaces.

You can rent your carupon arrival at the airport through well-known rental companies like Sixt and Europcar, but be very mindful of extra/hidden costs. Some companies have really strict policies meant to get you to pay extra for their own insurance.

    Car rental recommendations

If you book through a third-party website and take the website’s insurance, you will have to pay an €1100-1500 deposit at pick up (by visa/MasterCard, as debit or other credit cards are often not accepted) which is basically what’s covered by the booking website’s insurance and much cheaper than the daily insurance from the rental company directly.

If you know this, you can avoid a lot of trouble and frustrations!

A great website to book cheap cars is Doyouspain, but make sure to select the full/full fuel policy as their standard setting is full/empty which allows them to charge you an extra €30 to fuel the car.

If you book with rental companies directly and take their own insurance you will likely pay a bit more, but it might work for you if you don’t want to pay a big deposit or have discussions about insurance during pick up.

Motoluis is a highly recommended rental company on the island with the most reviews, and OKmobility is said to be a company with fair prices with the least hidden costs.

    Accommodation

The best type of accommodation in Ibiza really depends on who you are traveling with. Are you with a big group? Then the most fun thing would be to rent a villa together of course! To make your stay unforgettable, we highly recommend VIP Villas Ibiza.

    VIP Villas Ibiza

With more than 20 years of experience on the island, VIP Villas Ibiza has an offering of more than 190 amazing villas scattered across Ibiza. Whether you are looking for a beach-front pad, secluded hide-out, or luxury villa with pool, VIP Villas has it all. Check out their offering, and book your magical stay with a big fun group of friends.

However, you can also check well-known websites such as Airbnb, Booking, Expedia, and Trivago. You might want to see if other Babylon family members are interested in sharing accommodation, and start looking together.

Looking for a unique or funky hotel? We have gathered some of the most interesting hotels on the island below.

    Atzaró

We are not overexaggerating when we say that the 5-star resort Atzaró is simply a little bit of heaven on earth. The estate with its grounds is huge, with gorgeous tropical greenery all around the hotel and private villas to make it look like a slow meandering village. Of course, booking accommodation here comes with a hefty price tag, but there are so many different reasons to visit Atzaró.

You can come for lunch or dinner in one of their cozy restaurants overlooking the vegetable gardens, book a spa session or a bed at the pool, have a drink on one of the many terraces or pavilions, or have a look in the boutique. Just because of the perfectly manicured gardens, it’s even worth it to just come for a nice walk around.

    Concept Hotel Group

The Concept Hotel Group chain has some of the most colorful themed hotels on the island! Each with amazing lounges and nice pool areas where DJs often play. If you loooove art-deco vibes, try Paradiso or Tropicana for example. Fans of the classic Havana nights style; El Cubanito is your spot!

The brand new Grand Paradiso Hotel will open its doors this summer

    Wi-Ki-Woo Hotel

Some of you might not want to escape the city buzz at all, looking for a funky hotel where you can let loose and find yourself near all the rowdy bars. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but if it is and you love pink, Wi-Ki-Woo is where you will revel in it.

    Ibizazen

Formerly an old farmhouse, the Bufi family has created boutique hotel Ibizazen to be a little bit of heaven on earth. The property in Santa Eularia includes multiple apartment buildings, a lovely pool terrace, and various common areas all surrounded by orange and lemon trees.

    Food

You might want to swing by the gym a couple more times before leaving for Ibiza, you will indulge for sure once you arrive! Of course, there is no shortage of delicious seafood and other Mediterranean specialties, and we know exactly where you should go.

    Passion Café

With 5 locations spread across the island, you know your tastebuds are in for a treat at Passion Cafe. This breakfast and lunch spot specializes in healthy dishes made with locally sourced, organic ingredients whenever possible. With loads of plant-based options, they also serve some great chicken and fish dishes. Moreover, they are known for their mouthwatering fresh smoothies, juices, protein shakes, superfood shakes, and specialty coffees.

    Wild Beets

Find the absolute best vegan, raw, plant-based cuisine of Ibiza in the middle of the Island in the village of Santa Gertrudis. Wild Beets is exactly where you need to go to enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner in an urban yet stylish setting.

    Hambre

As the name suggests, this cute little restaurant in Santa Eularia is the place to be if you are hungry. Inside or on the small terrace at Hambre you can browse through their natural wines & mescal menu, accompanied by a shared dining menu that changes weekly. Mediterranean flavors straight from the farm to the table.

    Mei

Another small little gem around Santa Eularia; Japanese restaurant Mei. With its very casual and informal setting, this small eatery might not look very impressive from the outside. However, the sushi and especially the sesame-chili or truffle edamame are simply to die for!

    Terrace at La Brasa

    La Brasa

Many of our community members found La Brasa while walking around Ibiza Town and stumbling upon its beautiful courtyard terrace by chance. Indeed the rustic patio, full of plants and flickering candles in the evening offers a very cozy vibe, and the food definitely doesn’t disappoint either. Paella’s, seafood, and also enough vegetarian options, they have everything you would expect from a modern Mediterranean restaurant.

    Bambuddha Grove

Driving up to Bambuddha Grove almost feels like you’re visiting a village. The place is huge, with indoor and outdoor seating, multiple separate bars, a garden, and a boutique. Expect bamboo canopies, chandeliers, and traditional Asian decor. Their dining concept offers an Asian fusion shared dining menu, rather than the formal European ‘Starters and mains’. Curries, dim sum, sushi, and even tacos can be found on the menu, along with delicious cocktails.

    La Paloma

In the middle of the island in a village called San Lorenzo, you will find the amazingly charming restaurant La Paloma. This family-owned place has a lovely garden terrace, surrounded by orchards full of citrus trees and other plants. Even in the winter, La Paloma is a great place for homecooked Mediterranean food, served in the cozy indoor dining rooms with crackling fireplaces.

    Salvaje Ibiza

A charming restaurant in Cala de Bou, sant Antoni, Salvaje is where a delicious selection of Mediterranean-fusion dishes are offered at affordable prices. Their amazing cocktail menu is accompanied by a great program of live entertainment shows. Definitely recommended for large groups and celebrations.

    Faunalibre

The first vegan slow-food burger restaurant in Ibiza is Faunalibre. Here you will find original and nutritious vegan dishes inspired by traditional cuisine, without giving up all those rich and familiar flavors. The cozy place is a love sanctuary dedicated to animals, reminding you that la paz comienza en tu plato (peace starts on your plate).

    Nagai

Stumble upon a feast for all the senses when you arrive at Nagai Ibiza. In an intimate atmosphere, enjoy sushi and Japanese-fusion dishes in the lovely indoor dining areas or garden under the stars.

    Terrace at restaurant Nagai

    La Oliva

In the heart of Ibiza town, restaurant La Oliva is located right by one of the busiest squares. Enjoy traditional food with some Asian touches in authentic surroundings, while street performers pass you by.

    La Bodega

Simply hailed as the best tapas restaurant by many of our family members, we had to add La Bodega to this list. The casual atmosphere, Ibicenco art, exposed walls, and friendly service really make it a hotpot. Besides amazing tapas and cocktails, there is so much more to fall in love with at both locations, in Ibiza town and Talamanca.

    Sa Caleta

At the foot of Es Bol Nou beach, you can tuck into the freshest seafood while gazing at the ocean. Small, cozy restaurant Sa Caleta welcomes you with open arms.

    Sa Punta

In the mood for fine dining with a breathtaking view? Make your way over to Sa Punta, a chic restaurant with a terrace overlooking the bay. It must not come as a surprise that their inventive Mediterranean cuisine has a focus on seafood.

    Bars and Beachclubs

Besides nice restaurants and bars, the great thing about islands is that you can find establishments that are a combination of both right on the beach. Perfect for swinging by during long days at the beach, or to sit and work on your laptop while enjoying the view.

    El Silencio

You can find Beach House El Silencio at Cala Moli beach. It boasts a restaurant, tapas bar, cocktail bar, pool area, and chill room. And with such gorgeous sunset views, it truly has it all. What also really stands out is the surrealistic and quirky interior design.

    Sunset Ashram

Perked on a big rock on the white sandy beach of Cala Conta, you will find Beach House Sunset Ashram. Besides the typical Mediterranean cuisine, you can also find sushi and Hindu dishes on the menu. Make sure you also check their music program, as a wide range of local and international DJs play here in the evenings.

    Nassau Beach Club

Located on one of the largest stretches of sand in Ibiza, Playa d’en Bossa, you will find Nassau Beach Club. With beds right on the beach, this is the perfect place to spend your day in the sun. The friendly service and unpretentious atmosphere are in stark contrast to some of the other beach clubs at Playa d’en Bossa.

    El Chiringuito

The smooth sandy beach of Es Callet is home to Beach Club El Chiringuito, another great place for sunbathing and sipping cocktails all day on a wooden sunbed.

    Sa Trinxa

If you are looking for some real hippie vibes you will find everything and more at beach bar Sa Trinxa. The food is good, the atmosphere super relaxed, and the music program leaves nothing to wish for. Some evenings there is also a live saxophonist, and the vibrant flower power crew always keeps the vibes high.

Other honorable mentions for beach clubs:

Amante – Located on a hill with sunset view, nice food, and some comfy beach beds for all-day tanning.

Cala Bassa – Balinese beds, great food and simply the best sangria, located at Cala Bassa beach.

Blue Marlin – Decadence at its finest, but worth the price if that’s your jam. Great DJ’s of course!

Tropicana – Bump into celebrities at this beach club next to Blue Marlin at Cala Jondal beach.

    Beaches

Planning your beach days is serious business, so we have done the research for you! Generally speaking, the most trendy (and therefore most crowded) beaches can be found on the west coast of the island, and more of the family-friendly beaches are located in the north/north-east areas.

Good to know, is that topless/nude sunbathing is permitted all over the island. So you will encounter some nudity for sure. On a lot of beaches, you can get massages, or buy nice clothing and jewelry from vendors walking around on the beach. Make sure to bring cash just in case.

If you see warning signs for jellyfish, take this seriously! They might be small but their bites can be really agonizing. In case you get bitten, apply vinegar and do not rub the wound!

There are so many different types of beaches on the Island, from small rocky coves to paradisical soft lawns of white sand. We have made a selection for you below.

    Playa D’en Bossa

About 10 minutes from Ibiza Town, Playa D’en Bossa is the longest and probably most popular beach in Ibiza. You can find even more restaurants, beach bars, and shops along the boulevard than any other beach, and of course, it’s as crowded as can be during the high season. Nonetheless, if you love to be in the midst of where everything happens, you are in the right place.

    Benniras

Near San Miguel, on the northwest coast, you can find Benniras beach. It has rocks all around the edges and the sand is quite grainy with pebbles, but the atmosphere certainly makes up for this. The vibe feels very bohemian, the water is crystal clear and the sunsets are simply sublime. On Sundays, there is always a famous hippie drum circle during sunset, which you simply must experience sometime!

    Ses Salines

If you want fine soft sand and prefer a relatively lively atmosphere, Ses Salines is the place to go. The wide stretch of sand is lined with countless beach bars that play loud music and little shops. Due to the powdery soft sand and clear water, this place is extremely popular and crowded, so come early.

    San Miguel

Approximately 30 minutes from Ibiza Town, the gorgeous sandy beach of San Miguel can be found nestled in a cove with rocky cliffs. It’s quite close to Benniras, but much quieter, even in the high season.

    Other honorable mentions for beaches:

Sol D’en Serra – Secluded pebbly beach surrounded by mountains.

Cala Tarida – Fine white sand and green, shallow water with a more family-friendly vibe.

Cala Bassa – The clearest water around the island with soft golden sand.

Aguas Blancas – Naturist beach with soft sand and clear shallow water, surrounded by caves to explore.

    Shopping

If there is any place famous for bohemian clothing and accessories, it’s Ibiza! There are so many nice shopping areas, and not to forget multiple hippie markets.

    Hippie markets

Amazing vendors are already located at our party location, Las Dalias. But there are more hippie markets on the island. Punta Arabi is by far the biggest hippie market, held on Wednesdays in Es Caná. Cala Llonga market sells fashion/accessories on every Thursday, with some live music and a little funfair. On the same evening, there is also the artisanal market of Sant Rafel, while the car-boot market of Sant Jordi is held on each Saturday.

    Old town Ibiza

The best shopping area by far is just wandering around the streets of Ibiza’s old town and the marina area. All the little boutiques and stalls are a mixture of unique designer labels, typical Ibicenco cotton clothing, vintage gems, and trendy beachwear. Our favorites are Oscuro Ibiza and reVolver for black festival outfits, and Mayurka Ibiza and Babaz boutique for boho styles.

Photo of the streets of Ibiza Old Town by Belinda Fewings

    World family Ibiza

It doesn’t get more bohemian than this! World Family Ibiza is a large store located close to Sant Joan de Labritja. The lovely folkloristic vibe of the whole place just breathes Ibicenco lifestyle, with racks and racks full of colorful bohemian garments for men, women, and children. Also a fabulous collection of leather bags and sturdy hats.

    Other fun things to do

The fun never stops in Ibiza, it’s not only about partying. Once you have caught up on some sleep after our event, there are enough other fun things to do.

    Visit the alpaca farm

Es Currals alpaca farm was founded by Belgian couple San & Bart. The sweet and cuddly animals certainly shouldn’t be some kind of fair attraction, which is why the farm isn’t publicly open. However, they do occasionally open their doors to some visitors by private appointment only. Want to cuddle a furry alpaca? Send them an email.

    Romantic picnic

If you really want to have a special experience, be sure to contact Ibiza Secret Picnic. This organization is founded by our family member Jeroen Panjer and his girlfriend, arranging super romantic picnics with a beautiful view of Es Vedrà. Cozy pillows, blankets, and candlelight is all you need for a magical date with your lover, or a fun hang-out with your best friend(s).

    Go hiking in nature

The magical rock formations, caves, mountains, and lush nature make Ibiza the perfect island for long hiking adventures. The possibilities are endless, with or without an experienced guide. Check out some of the best Facebook groups for the best hiking trails here, and here.

    Yoga and spirituality

Many of the beach clubs and resorts in Ibiza will offer yoga sessions in the early morning, just keep an eye out for the programs. However, there are a lot of organizations and retreats that focus on yoga, meditation, and other spiritual elements, you can just have your pick. Take a look at Facebook groups such as Yoga Mindfulness Ibiza, and retreats like One Day Retreat Ibiza and Conscious Being Retreat.

    Lio dinner show

At Lio Ibiza, you can enjoy sensational cabaret-style dinner shows full of glitter and glamour. It will cost you, but the high-quality performances with the best dancers, singers, acrobats, and other acts are certainly worth each penny. After the dinner and show, Lio is transformed into a nightclub where the beat goes on until the early morning.

    Boat trip

The ultimate Ibiza activity would have to be going on a boat trip! There is simply no better way to enjoy the sun and the clear turquoise waters surrounding the island. Charter a yacht, a sailboat, or a catamaran with your friends and you will have a party on the frothing waves. There are so many different companies and services, take a look at some of the offerings here.

    That’s all for now angels!
